Week 16!

How I'm doing: Very tired these days, I have been sleeping at least 9 hours a night but it is not enough. Usually I spend most of the day Saturday sleeping as well. Also I was hungry ALL THE TIME in the first trimester, I would often wake up in the middle of the night and eat. Now that has mostly gone away, and I am thinking that that was my form of morning sickness. I am eating just the 3 meals a day now (albeit with a bit bigger portions than normal), with some healthy fruit snacks in between.

Cravings: Finally I have been having some cravings! Mostly I have been craving spicy food, I ate burritos for 2 meals yesterday. Also salty food, I read that this is because my body needs the salt to increase blood pressure so I can get blood to the baby.

Aversions: Well no real aversions, but I read up on the risks of Listeria and even though it is rare it scared me so now I am worried about any food that has been sitting around too long.

Wish I could: Drink alcohol!

Emotions: Now that the initial excitement of the pregnancy has worn off, and the fatigue has increased, I have been feeling a bit ho-hum about everything. I have so much less time to do stuff because I spend much much more time sleeping than I used to! It is a bit frustrating. I ran into a neighbor and I was telling her about it and she says she feels the same way about getting old.

Are you finding out the gender of the baby: Yes we will find out the gender ahead of time, at the next ultrasound which is in about 5 weeks or so.  In the beginning I was picturing a theoretical boy baby, but right now I don't care if it is a boy or a girl and I am just wondering what it is. I don't know if this is because I saw the ultrasound and the theoretical baby became a real baby, or because I am feeling ho-hum, or what.

How is it being pregnant: Overall, it is interesting being pregnant. People ask me all sorts of questions, and offer all sorts of interesting tidbits and advice. Just today someone told me you can tell if it is going to be a boy or a girl by how "glowing" the mom looks. She said I look glowing, so she thinks it will be a girl. That was nice of her.

Baby is the size of an: Avocado
