37 weeks 4 days

How are you feeling: Great! The baby is now full term and we are eagerly anticipating his arrival. On Wednesday we had a midwife checkup, she said she wasn't 100% sure he was head down so sent us for an ultrasound to make sure. What a great surprise, we hadn't expected to seeing the baby again until he was born!

The ultrasound was yesterday, and the technician did confirm he is head down (in about 2 seconds), then she spent some time and told us a bunch of other stuff about him which was really great. First, she measured his head and said "this is a big baby!" I was worried, "how big is he?" I asked her. My sister had a baby that was almost 10 lbs so I was worried he was in that ballpark. She said he is 7 lbs 3 ounces right now, and will probably gain another pound before his due date. That sounds fine to me, I'm not sure why she said he was so big. Maybe he just has a really big head?

Also: he has LOTS of hair, she could tell that with the ultrasound! And he was sucking on the pinky finger of his left hand I believe. I wonder if he will continue doing that once he is born. My nephew Andon used to suck on one finger from basically the day he was born (probably started earlier) and he continued doing it most of his childhood.

That was the most exciting thing that has happened in this pregnancy in a long time! Even though I didn't expect any bad news it was still a big relief great joy to see that Pieya is still in there, still healthy, hanging out and waiting to come and meet us.

Is the baby room set up yet: Oh my gosh. So the baby will sleep in our room in the beginning. All his stuff is ready to go, but crammed in the guest bedroom right now because I bought a new bed for Mahesh and I from Sears, when it came it was missing some parts. So now we have a disassembled bed in our room waiting for parts, when we put that together we will move the baby stuff in. But it has been almost 2 weeks now and no bed parts! So I am getting a little nervous about it.

The one thing we tried and gave up on was trying to install the car seat in the car. I didn't realize how hard it was, it was the middle of the day and hot and cramped back there and once we failed twice I gave up. Maybe I will try again this morning.

What have you and Mahesh been up to? I have been home, working very part-time, so I end up dividing most of my time between "taking care of myself" i.e. lying on the couch, going swimming, doing prenatal yoga, making healthy food, taking naps, etc. and "getting ready for baby," which for me means not just baby stuff but taking care of all sorts of things around the house so we won't have to worry about them anytime soon. This week was appliance week, we got a used stove and fridge for our suite, and we need a new dishwasher really badly so I will try and get that replaced before the baby comes.

Mahesh has been staying home and helping A LOT with stuff around the house. At work, he is trying to get all his papers and projects and students sorted out so they won't need his intervention very much once the baby comes. I am coming to understand that some of this is a multi-year process so it is a bit difficult to cut it off completely. He is doing his best so he can be here to help us get through the tough early weeks of parenting. Plus my mom is coming, my sister Becky, and Mahesh's parents are coming (not all at the same time) during the first 2 months so we should be good to go.

The final countdown is beginning...
