30 weeks!

How your baby's growing:

Your baby's about 15.7 inches long now, and she weighs almost 3 pounds (like a head of cabbage). A pint and a half of amniotic fluid surrounds her, but that volume will decrease as she gets bigger and takes up more room in your uterus. Her eyesight continues to develop, though it's not very keen; even after she's born, she'll keep her eyes closed for a good part of the day. When she does open them, she'll respond to changes in light but will have 20/400 vision — which means she can only make out objects a few inches from her face. (Normal adult vision is 20/20.)

How are you feeling: So far, still so good! My job is finished now and I have been getting tons of sleep and Pie-ya is growing like crazy! My stomach is really bulging out and I don't have any coats that will zip up anymore. Luckily summer is here so I don't think I will need them. Overall I am feeling great and happy. I had a baby shower in Vermont last week which was fun and very touching. This baby is already very loved by so many people, we are so lucky.

Small Scare: I was on an airplane the other day, and there was a bar sticking out from the stewardess' jump seat that hadn't been fully put away on the way in. I was in a hurry to use the bathroom and I misjudged the expanding girth of my belly and I ran right into the bar in the middle part of my belly. It hurt! My hand immediately went to the spot that got hit and there was a solid mass of baby there, so I got really worried that he had gotten hurt. But I was on a plane for the next three hours and there wasn't much that could be done.

The baby kept kicking and so I did feel like he was probably generally OK in there, but I was worried that he was somehow hurt or in pain from the blow. Finally, when I landed, I called my midwives, and when I got back to Vancouver, I went in for a check. They explained that pie-ya is very very cushioned in there, felt the baby and listened for his heartbeat and didn't find any signs of distress so in the end I didn't go in for an ultrasound. I'm not sure if that was the right choice or not but it has been about a week since then and he is still kicking away so I am feeling better about it all.

Weight Gained: According to the scale at my mom's house, as of about 2 weeks ago I gained about 27 lbs. That puts me over the recommended weight gain for this stage of my pregnancy, which I am a little worried about, but I tell myself I'm on the taller side so I'm going to gain a bit more.

Clothes: I bought a maternity swimsuit at Motherhood Maternity, I'm not a big fan of it but I'll only be wearing it for 2 months so it doesn't matter. I want to start swimming once a week for extra exercise.

Symptoms: Getting up to use the bathroom about 5 times a night is really annoying. Other than that, I can't think of anything different.

Cravings: I have had many cravings for ice cream lately. Mostly resisted.

OK I think that's it, have a good week everyone!
